About me
I’m a proud South London resident, having lived in the wonderful St.Reatham for 20 years. I live with my husband and two kids and love taking advantage of all the wonderful things London has to offer.
My education and career journey
After having quite an unconventional early education journey which started in Nigeria and ended in the Malvern Hills, I graduated from Leeds University with a degree in English literature and language. Like most English graduates, I toyed with becoming a teacher and after quickly realising that wasn’t for me, I decided to go travelling round the world for a year on my own instead.
I worked in sales for a few years when I came back (but my heart was never in it!) and then after realising my dreams to be a police officer were not to be, my career in healthcare regulation began.
I joined the General Dental Council (GDC) in September 2006 and after almost 15 years there in a variety of roles I moved to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in May 2021 where I still work now.
My experience
I started off my working life with the belief that I needed to choose a ‘profession’ but I’ve learnt over the years that the best way to develop and progress is to focus on your own skills and find the best role to match those skills. I’ve worked in operations, policy, project and programme management and have even dipped my toe into the legal profession. I’ve managed down and managed up and have always worked hard to instil confidence in my abilities even when I’ve felt like an imposter at times.
As a woman and a working parent, I’ve had my fair share of bumps in the road when it comes to my own career progression. I’ve had times where I’ve had to work against the tide to demonstrate the real value I can bring to the table. I’m a firm believer that we all have so many strengths, we just need to know how to make the most of them so we can perform at our best.
I like helping others to recognise the strengths they have and supporting them to work through the challenges they face so that they can really thrive. I also love encouraging and empowering people to come up with their own solutions.
I’m particularly interested in working with those who feel that they’re stuck in a rut or at a particular crossroad in life where they know something needs to change, but they’re maybe not quite sure what that is.
